Our Mission

Mission Statement
At SSDS, our mission is to educate the public on the importance of not only dog rescue, but senior dog rescue. According to the ASPCA, senior dogs only have a 25% adoption rate compared to a 60% dog adoption rate of younger puppies and dogs. Senior dogs often end up without a home due to their owners becoming ill or passing away and/or the "boredom" people assume comes with senior dogs - leading to being dumped or found as strays. The truth is - those in their elder years are often already trained, mellow, calm, snuggly, occasionally active, and simply want a relaxing, loving home to spend the rest of their golden years. Not only do we currently house 8 senior and hospice dogs, but we encourage others to do the same. The pain of losing a senior is easily outweighed by the love and peace of mind of knowing one less dog died in a shelter.
